Lesson 34: Temporary Requests

Ray and Ashley entered the village of Balaster with the merchants.

First, before the merchant squad takes the room, I aim to secure the inn tonight.

I find an inn in the centre of the village and immediately take a room, where I take a breath, realizing that the village was surrounded by a vibrant atmosphere.

Looking outside, the knights and soldiers of the defensive corps, as well as the mercenaries and adventurers believed to have been hired by the defensive corps, were walking in the village.

"Are they mountain hunters? That's a lot of people."

There are more than thirty soldiers just as Ray saw them.

It feels like there are more than a hundred soldiers to observe from horse hissing and people talking.

There is also a festival or downtown buzz because the merchants came to the center of the village.

Ray was talking to Ashley, watching what was going on outside.

"It's good to have the inn secured as soon as possible. By the way, what are we gonna do tomorrow?

"Right. You can do the merchant escort that was in the merchant squad, but you two can relax and go home. You might want to join the mountain hunt."

Listen to Ashley,

(You're still not sure you're going to act in the mountains. This body, my arms and strength are amazing, but I've never done ropework or rock climbing... it's going to be annoying, so maybe it's best for both of us to relax and go home)

When he told Ashley about it, she also lightly agreed with his idea that she was still quick to act in the mountains.

After they get out of gear, they sit back in bed and start talking about tomorrow and beyond.

"Tomorrow, I'm going home to Morton, but then what do I do? In this camp, I knew exactly how I knew nothing. Otherwise, Ash will be ashamed..."

"I don't care about me, but you should certainly learn a little more about the basics. Perhaps you could take a crusade request while practicing camp around Rattley or Linney's village"

"Right," Ray said to Ashley's suggestion, after nodding,

"There's another thing I'm thinking about. I used healing magic today, but my magic is something I thought about myself, and I don't know if it's really user-friendly. I'm trying to get Estelle, the healer, to teach me healing magic."

After she said her thoughts, "Well... I think it's enough magic to use,"

"If Ray thinks so, can I apprentice him to Estelle? She'll probably tell you."

Since the policy was set from the day after tomorrow, and the time was also past the start time of dinner, 5: 00 p.m., we go for dinner.

But the dining room was more crowded than the Breemer Village Inn yesterday, and it wasn't an atmosphere of enjoying a slow meal.

After eating so as to intrude, the two took a pint of wine and went back to their room.

Ashley laughed niggardly, "Ray, do you know what day this is?" I hear.

Ray suddenly asks, but I can't think of an answer. Raise your hands that you surrendered,

"It's just been a month since I was helped by you. It's been exactly a month since you've been in this world."

(I don't look at the calendar, and I don't have plans ahead, so I forgot what day of the month it is... I did come over here on May 1st, April 1st, so it's just a month...)

"Right. It's been another month. We've been together for a month..."

"Right. We've been together forever. Keep it up."

That's what Ashley says. He bows his head, but Ray also bows his head,

"It's this way to ask for it. Keep it up."

The subtle atmosphere that wraps them up fits into their laughing stumps and erupts at the same time. And gradually he spoke and laughed, and to the punishment he was laughing in tears.

When the laughter subsided, Ashley lifted up again, a bottle of wine,

"For us to come, why don't we make a toast?

Ray nods loudly. The two spent their time alone in an inn where the soldiers shrugged.

The next morning, while it was still dark when I woke up, the voices of the soldiers were ringing.

Mountain hunting seems to start early in the morning and seems to be getting ready.

The two of them, who had no particular hurry, watched the situation relaxed.

Ray stumbled upon an acquaintance among the soldiers preparing.

After fighting Hydra, I was looked after at the front gate, it was Bart Flecker.

As soon as Ray found Bart, he went to speak up.

"Good morning. Mr. Burt. Is Mr. Burt in the mountain hunt too?

"If you think it's someone, isn't it Ray? Yeah, three days of hiking from today. It's troublesome..."

He doesn't seem to really want to participate in this mountain hunt, and, no, no, he's not even trying to hide the air that he's participating.

When Ray asks why,

"It's an armed group of fifty. If I didn't have a purpose, I wouldn't be in this country. If there's a purpose, let's get moving. That means it's no use looking here. How could you not know that?"

(It sure is. Ash's story also said it's not reasonable for bandits to operate around here, so by the time you go mountain hunting, you should have already moved. But where are you going to do what? Besides, the woods were noisy yesterday, so I guess I was lurking around here, but I've been roaming around here for three days since the day we were attacked by the forest wolf. I wonder what that's all about?

Ray questions the actions of an unarmed group, but he has too little information and couldn't have gotten an answer.

Burt's squad seems to be ready, and the departure signal was hung.

"Be careful, Mr. Burt. We're going back to Morton like this."

"See you in your spare time, come visit me at the main entrance or at the clock. Then I'll come."

Bart raised his hand and went into the woods with his squad.

After the two broke up with Bart, Gibb Croteau, a merchant who gave up his room in Breemer Village, called out.

"Aren't you two going mountain hunting? Then I wonder if I can still ask for an escort today."

I don't think Ray should be safe from here,

"Isn't it a safe street from here? Why is it that some of the original escorts are there?

Croteau looks like a bad bat,

"No, I'm worried that the escort I hired is young. Look, yesterday, the tiff you treated and the other one's a Grade Seven Darren. Thanks for the anxiety...... this would be the situation if I tried to make it cheaper because it was one carriage. So I was wondering if I could ask you gentlemen of skill..."

Not knowing what to do, Ray left Ashley to judge.

"Can I be hired at a time like this? You ever get into trouble with a mercenary you've been with? I don't know the neighborhood, so I'll leave it to Ash."

Ashley nodded,

"Oh, let me take care of it. Lord Croteau, do Darren and Tiff know about this? And I want to see the rewards and conditions."

"Not yet for Darren and Tiff. If you guys are going to do it, I'll talk to you. How about a reward of 30C (krona) per person up to Morton? Lunch included, subject to arrival in Morton by 6pm. I think a carriage of carriages would be a breakdown as an escort between Baluster-Morton."

Ashley thought for a moment,

"If it's a condition Darren and Tiff accept, you can take it. But if they seem a little reluctant, we won't take it. Oh, let me be there for you too, in the place of explanation to them"

Croteau accompanied Ashley and Ray to Darren's place.

Croteau explains to the two of them, but he didn't even give them a particularly reluctant look, which he immediately acknowledged. Seeing how it was, Ashley nodded to Ray, accepting to be escorted.

We're leaving at 8: 00 a.m., and the two of us are going to get ready.

In doing so, Ray had confirmed to Ashley what he had questioned about his earlier interaction.

"I was just telling you, is there some sort of implicit understanding between mercenaries? If I did interrupt along the way, I wouldn't like it, but my life is on the line, and I thought I'd care so much."

"Right. Normally, canceling from those two isn't a strange story. I suspect my skill, my pride, but my employer's ability to judge the situation is questionable."

Ray couldn't understand and said, "What do you mean?" I ask.

"That is. The need for additional escorts along the way will mean that you will not be able to grasp the situation of what you carry, the route, the season/time zone, etc. Employers who are unable to do that are often sweet in information management and often at risk of being attacked. So we give jobs to new escorts, and even if we pay a cancellation fee, we sometimes go down the escort. Merchants want to be critical escorts, but the mercenary side better have as much room as possible"

"Doesn't that make it better to add more escorts?

"Yeah, it's supposed to be good for mercenaries to have more escorts, but if you admit that too much, you get a lot of nasty merchants. Perhaps I should call that a curse."

"What did Darren and the others admit this time?

"Because I'm level five and you can use healing magic. Grade seven over there. I guess it's hard to say I just graduated from the rush...... there are circumstances where my plans have been changed quickly this time. And yesterday. I guess he didn't say anything, thinking about the area."

Ray was concerned about what he said yesterday about taking a jumping escort to get a room,

"Yesterday, we jumped in and we did some escorts, which was actually a problem story?

Ashley shook her neck sideways,

"No, because we formed a merchant squad yesterday. It's more like an entire squad escort than an individual escort. And I could barely pay for it. I wouldn't particularly care because this proves the merchant is highly capable. Things are a lot different today."

Although Ray was convinced by Ashley's explanation, he thought it was a lot of hassle.

When they were ready, they joined the crotoes.

Already ready ready ready to leave, he left the village of Baluster at 8 a.m.

The group of Cylons and Blackclothes were proceeding west of the village of Balaster, in a mountain of about five km.

I can't go a kilometer an hour to go through the mountains without deep forest paths. For this reason, the night also required only a minimal break, using the magic props of the lights in the darkness, and hurried ahead.

By the time the Rays left Balaster village, the Therons were west of Balaster village and out of the mountain hunting range of Rezam's defense forces.

"You'll be fine if we get this far."

When Theron says so, the man in black,

"No, Rezam's defense team was scattered, but he entered the territory of Morton's defense team. We can't stay alert yet."

They have no information that Morton's defense forces will arrive in Baluster village and hunt the mountains. However, he is familiar with the defensive team's pattern of action, and his predictions can be described as quite accurate.

I don't think Theron had to worry that much, but he didn't even get to act separately from them in this forest, and he had no choice but to continue his march in the forest with them.

The result was that the decision saved him from a mountain hunt for Morton's defense team.

Ray and Ashley are splitting up in front of and behind one carriage and providing escorts.

Ashley and Tiff share the front and Ray and Darren share the back.

Baluster to Morton is about thirty km away. As soon as we leave, we will not be able to see the other carriages because we will not form a merchant corps today and we will proceed separately.

The forest is not that deep to the first relay point, the village of Linney, and the outlook is good.

Darren beside Ray is equipped with a long sword in leather armor and a small circular shield. The leather armor and shields were scratched by the way, and Ray was under the impression that he was young but a mercenary of war.

Ray was talking to Darren next door.

"How many years has Darren been a mercenary?

He was pretty much the same age - Darren was twenty and Tiff was nineteen - and for Ray, he rarely started talking with a tame mouth.

"I guess it's been almost three years since I signed up. If you're an adventurer, it's been five years since you signed up for 15."

"All this time, working around here?

"Oh, from Rezam, all the merchant squad escorts between Turbs in the south and Morton in the north."

"Is there often a raid or something around here?

"No, the demon attacked me in the past year, um, maybe ten times? I've never fought a bandit before."

(It is unusual to say that you will be raided twice on your way and home. This time it must be because of the armed groups in the example. If the escort is dangerous, I was thinking about making it a single adventurer, but you don't seem to have to worry... but does the fact that you've only been in battle about ten times in a year mean you're barely getting to the level? So the level of mercenaries around here isn't higher than I thought... less mercenaries on the battlefield like Ash...)

Ray doesn't understand the world situation yet, so he thinks so, but around here, around Morton, although the borders form, Sartooth and Lax are intimate enough to form the United Kingdom, a fairly safe area. If this is near the border with the Kaelm Empire in the south or in mountainous areas in the east, there is such a danger that it is not comparable here.

When Ray was thinking about that, Darren talked to me the other way around.

"I was saved yesterday. Let me thank you."

Ray doesn't know what he's talking about, he's leaning his neck. Darren laughed bitterly,

"I'm talking about my partner Tiff's arm. Tiff and I are from the same village, and we've been doing this together for three years. I just wanted to thank you for helping him... hehe, Ray doesn't know what it's like to hang healing magic for free..."

"What do you mean?

"No one hires a badly injured mercenary to break his left arm as an escort. If Tiff stayed that way, he would have been left in Baluster Village. Plus, if you have a broken arm, you can't work for at least a month. I don't have a month's worth of money for a young man like us. If the healer treats you, you don't know how much money they're asking for. That's why I'm exaggerating. Hey, it means I owe Tiff his life."

"But isn't it normal to treat the same escort?

"Surely if you were in the battle" Kudosa, "you would be. But he's a mercenary of the escort, so much so that he sweeps and throws it away. Especially for guys like us who grow hairy in the rush. In fact, without us, with guys like you and Ashley, it would be enough. Normally, it's just first aid, so you don't get stuck."

"It's like that... that's why they told you healers are precious... well, if you're that healed, it's not a burden, and you don't have to worry about it"

Darren is about to erupt into that word,

"For once, we're eating with mercenaries, too. I can't thank you enough, but when you get into Morton, give me a drink."

Ray nodded, wary of his surroundings, listening to all sorts of stories.

(The decent people I spoke to are about Ash and Shabby and the branch managers. Everyone is an arm stander, and considering that as standard, I feel stuck at my feet... but ordinary mercenaries are tough... I can't believe that day's inn, that's not a tall inn like the Silver Bell Pavilion, but drawing to earn a cheap inn... in that regard, I don't have to taste the hard work thanks to this body and Ash...)

We arrived at the first relay point, the village of Linney.

After putting in a small pause, we continue down the street again.

Between the village of Linney and the next village of Rattley, the forest is deep and the road is bad.

The speed of movement also drops, not as much as the twist between Breemer and Baluster, but there are also many demonic raids, and before entering the woods, Ashley gives instructions to be more vigilant.

"From here on out, increase perimeter alert! Darren, Ray is inexperienced, so follow him!

When the voice of understanding rose from Darren, the line began to move again.

In the woods, there was no such thing as a scrupulous feeling until yesterday, and as usual, it was calm.

But the escorts also talked about armed groups, and carefully proceeded through the woods, looking around from the horses to the kyorokyoro and surroundings.

Around 1 p.m., we arrived safely in Rattley village.

A line that I felt more mentally tired than usual because I was nervous can give me an hour's rest to have a late lunch.

As Ray and Ashley were taking a break, village chief Chiaran stumbled upon the figure.

The village chief has spoken to both of them as he moved his cat ears pico.

"Aren't you Mr. Ashley and Mr. Ray? Is this an escort?

When they nod, the village chief bows his head, "If you have time, I want you to listen to me”.

Still, I have time before I leave, so when I hear the story,

"Actually, you two have a favor to ask..."

The story of the chief of the village of Chiaran is that giant snakes are now appearing across the shore of Lake Drameny - a lake that previously crossed to exorcise Lizardman - and fishermen leaving for the lake in the early morning are attacked. The snake was more than ten meters long and big enough to swallow people whole. No damage has been done so far, but there is no doubt that it will happen sooner or later. I was going to send a crusade request to the Alliance, but there was no one who was going to take it, and I was in trouble.

It was a request to the two men who quickly exorcised the grey bear to exorcise this snake.

"... so Ashley, he wants me to make a request in the form of a nomination for Mr. Ray..."

Still unfamiliar with how the guild works, Ray says, "What's the nomination request?" Ask Ashley.

"Oh, the nomination request, as its name suggests, is to nominate an adventurer to make a request. Normally, I would give it to the stronger of the third level or above... the reward is good, but I will be detained until it is complete..."

Ashley asked why he would nominate Chiaran village chief.

"Why us? Normally, you should ask for a crusade."

"Originally, the request for this village was hard to come by, even the normal one. I don't know where he is this time. It'll take a while just to find the serpent, and I was wondering if you could take it for a commission we can put out. In that regard, you two, your arms are sure, and you work fast. I was wondering if we could get a thank you..."

Ashley is convinced "I see" and confirms Ray's intentions.

"I think I'm good. Anyway, I was thinking of taking a request around here."

"Right. Okay, village chief. I need you to put out a nomination request for me and Ray."

The village chief snorted with a full smile and said he would send people first thing tomorrow morning and walked away.

The break is over and we leave for Morton.

Rutley to Morton also pass through the deep woods, but the demons around here are quite exterminated, making them safer than their itinerary until then.

But Ashley skips the instructions so the other three don't get alarmed.

For what it's worth, I arrived safely in the city of Morton at 4pm.

Ray and Ashley headed to the nostalgic Silver Bell Pavilion when they received their reward from Croteau.
