Lesson 29: Night Assault

Early the next morning, the merchants were assembling in front of the East Gate of the city of Bridgand.

Last night, I had no trouble with the worried adventurers. Apparently, the mercenaries of the Fifth Squad, and especially the veterans of the squad leader class, had done their part by being wary of shaming the esteemed captain.

If you look up at the sky, there's a cloudy sky that makes you anxious to get ahead.

It doesn't feel like rain is going to fall any time soon, but thicker and thicker clouds drip in and the cold wind passes through the mercenaries on the horse.

With Valeria's well-sounding "Departure!" voice, the merchants leave the gate one after the other.

Out of the gate, the streets were thinner until then, stretching through woods that felt like cluttered woods. And it soon became tightly uphill and the speed of the merchant carriage was extremely low compared to yesterday.

In addition, the escorts are positioned the same as they were until yesterday, but because of the narrow road, the line will be extended. As a result, it had changed since yesterday, and it was extremely difficult for the escorts to communicate information.

(If it does get to Bridgend, the Fifth Squad alone is enough. But seeing this path is the right decision to make... then I want you to tell me from the beginning, and I just want you to stop saying things to me. After that, it was hard being tangled up by Mr. Valeria...)

Ray remembered how it was at dinner yesterday, and he was being sloppy.

(From now on, let's be careful with Mr. Alberic. Hi, I feel like I'm becoming his flirting character (toy)...)

Day one, we even climb uphill.

Around 3 p.m., the uphill slope also finally showed its end, with a meadow with a series of small hills ahead.

The vegetation around him had also changed from a miscellaneous forest to a tall tree and a suki-like grass, into a desolate landscape.

(That's a landscape that feels desolate somewhere. I guess it has something to do with cloudy skies, but from the beautiful landscapes of forests, lakes, meadows, etc., you felt like a "periphery" at once...)

Around 4 p.m., we will set a place to stay tonight near a creek in the meadows and start preparing for the night camp.

Ashley was skipping instructions to the crew.

"Renzi goes to the cookout squad, and Hal takes care of Ray and the horse. Stella goes to reconnaissance with me and the surrounding situation. After that..."

Ray, with Hal, takes the five horses who have unloaded their luggage to the creek.

"Mr. Ray, please take the horse downstream. Drink water and check the condition of your hooves. After that..."

Ray manages to take care of the horse as he listens to Hal's instructions.

After giving him a drink of water, he takes him to a grassy place and sets him free.

"The horse is ok with this, so the next step is to install the light demon props. I'll leave three on the carriage..."

(You've got a lot to do. But you've got a lot of protection. Though I line up the carriage like a circle. Don't get about 50m in diameter......)

The wagon had already been removed from the horse and arranged in double circles.

Large incendiaries like campfires have been prepared at the center of the circle, beside which mercenaries and merchants are beginning to cook in large pots.

(There are less than thirty of us, fifty of you, and ten or so of the people of the Chamber of Commerce, so there are ninety of us all? That's a good number of people. Can't you expect it to taste because it serves all the people who cooked in the open? So do you personally have all sorts of condiments...)

Set up a light demon prop with Hal, and when it's over, go collect the horses.

Ray's beloved horse traveler, as he stops by, joyfully closes his face.

"Good day. They're going into circles at night. I just wanted to slow you down a little bit."

Hal looks strange when he sees him talking to the horse.

"Can Mr. Ray talk to a horse? Sounds like he's always talking to you, though?

Ray laughed and shook his neck wide and sideways.

"No way, that's not true... this guy is smart. So it's like I know what you're talking about. Plus, I'm an important fellow, so I'm just thinking I should work hard... weird?

"That's not true, but it's about Mr. Burt at the stables to talk to a horse. I'm just a little surprised."

Having a conversation without other love, the two proceeded to prepare for the night camp.

Stella was on her way to reconnaissance around with Ashley.

There were no particularly dangerous signs of trees as low as the waist or just elongated Inidae grass growing. However, in the grass bushes, he had found multiple footprints of four-legged animals with claws.

Ashley stood on a rock about two meters high, looking around,

"Any sign of that? Stella."

"No, so far, it doesn't feel particularly dangerous. But there are wolf-like footprints. Not new, though."

Hearing a wolf, Ashley jumped off a rock and said, "Do you know how many?" I ask.

"No, I'm pretty sure there were more than five heads, until the exact number. Feels a little bigger than a wolf......"

"Okay. You found me well. I'm going to report to the captain."

Ashley tells me there's a wolf footprint. Valeria, Captain of the Fifth Squad, makes a difficult face.

"Wolves or demon dogs...... that's a pain in the ass when you have a lot of them. Do you have any idea how long ago this was?

"I was wondering if it was about three days ago. Right, Stella."

To Ashley's inquiry, Stella nods silently.

"Okay. Summon the squad leaders. Ash needs to stay here. Stella can go back."

As Ashley signals with her eyes, Stella returns to the Rays.

Seeing that appearance, Valeria ordered the squad leaders to convene the

"Can't you do something about it? I admit it helps, but if I don't listen to anything other than you, I can't leave you here."

"I know. But I don't know... Ray says it's changing a little bit, but I'm not sure."

Valeria just groaned, "Well......" and then she didn't say anything in particular.

In consultation with the squad leaders, Valeria decided to make the night security system a two-squad system.

Separate 8: 00pm to 6: 00am in two hours, divided into four hours so that each squad deviates. Ashley's five squads will be with the last four hours, from 2 a.m. to 6 a.m., the first two hours with four squads and the last two hours with one squad.

"Keep it up, we're leaving. It might be a little hard, but I asked for it."

Ashley scowled at the words of Valeria, and returned to the Rays.

Ashley tells me he's in charge from 2 a.m. to 6 a.m., and Ray drops his shoulder disappointingly.

(Will I leave without a break? If someone doesn't do it, I guess they shouldn't, but they are mostly...)

Dinner is ready after 5pm and surrounds a large fire in the center.

Dinner was a meat-and-vegetable-style meat, bread I bought in the city of Bridgand.

(Surprisingly delicious. I wonder if it's because I'm hungry or because I'm in a camping mood. This kind of atmosphere makes me want a curry. I wonder if there's any curry powder......)

Ray remembered the camp he went to when he was in elementary school and was thinking about that.

After dinner, everyone lays down immediately, except for the mercenaries on guard.

Neither did the Rays take their gear off, wrapped it in a blanket, and no one wasted their mouth, lying down.

Ray doesn't quite put it to sleep, and when he finally thinks he's asleep, it's time to take turns and Ashley wakes him up.

(You wanted to sleep a little more. You don't like sleeping early because you still can't feel it when you were in Japan... even though it's been over two months)

It's been about an hour since they stood on the sentry, around 3: 00 a.m.

It starts raining like fine mist.

High altitudes, wrapped in cold rain, deprive her of strength.

(That sucks. No, it's just not the main way down...... if it rains too much, don't those narrow streets get wet? More than that, my vision is narrower because of this foggy rain. I hope the wolves Stella found didn't attack me...)

Ashley, like Ray, was worried about this situation.

(Tastes bad. vision narrows, beast man's sense of smell, hearing becomes hard too... you might want to keep your guard down)

Ashley likes to alert Ray, Renzi and Hal, calling Stella near herself.

"I'm counting on your perceptive abilities. If you think it's weird at all, you can make a mistake, let me know right away."

Stella replies, "OK," and puts in an exploration as if to foresee darkness, with no suspicious signs around her.

4: 00 am.

Valeria and the rest of the squad join the security.

Ashley had told him that there were no anomalies so far.

"So far, no problem. This foggy rain is depressing..."

Valeria nods at the words and heads to their place of residence.

("So far” or... do you feel anything? Seeing you have Stella on hand...... looks like you should keep your temper on this one)

She puts her own men in a drink to keep them from distracting themselves and keeps them on guard.

Ray stares at the cold fog as he hears the sound of firewood exploding and the sometimes hissing horse.

(Usually, it's time for the sky to start whitening, but don't be late today. I hope nothing happens like this......)

The moment I thought about it, Ashley's sharp voice echoed around.

Ashley can't get a bad feeling out of her head.

(My neck feels chilly. Something always happens at times like this. Don't be alarmed......)

Stella's small but sharp voice hits her in the ear.

"Master Ashley, something is coming. More than ten signs, no, there are more than fifteen. Wolf? No, it's a demon dog!

Ashley heard the words and was immediately shouting out loud.

"Enemy attack! Enemy attack! Everybody up! Over fifteen demon dogs! Approaching from the east side! Ray, intercept with magic! Renzi, Hal! Don't let them get in the circle!

Valeria responds to her voice.

"All rise! Archers snipe from the top of the carrier! Three squads out of the circle! Squad two, Squad four, take care of the guy who's inside! Dougal! I've got the command inside!

Valeria screams and runs at full speed to join the Ashleys.

Before she joined the Ashleys, the end of the battle was open between the demon dogs Ibilhound - a dog resembling a large hyena with as many veal - and the Ashleys.

Ray had heard Ashley's words and was beginning to prepare a crossbow of light.

(The number is more than fifteen. A demon dog...... it must have been a more dangerous dog-shaped demon than a gray wolf. An arrow of light won't stop you with a single blow. Thoroughly restrain and buy time......)

Create a crossbow of three successive shots of light in about ten seconds and look for a goal.

The demon dogs also heard Ashley scream and thought the ambush had failed, running towards them all at once.

(All right, two shots at the leading demon dog. One shot behind it......)

He turns to the leading demon dog, sets his aim one shot at a time, and shoots in.

The first one pierces the base of the forefoot, the second pierces the soft flank, and the demon dog rolls to relax.

When I hit the third one on the back leg of the demon dog that was running behind it, I decided to go up to the carrier and snipe a further revolving demon dog.

(Ash has stellar. What I have to do is do as much damage to as many demon dogs as I can. And that you can't go inside...... Ash, Stella, don't push me)

Ray shoots a single arrow of light at a demon dog trying to get inside the circle, not a demon dog headed toward the Ashleys.

Ashley and Stella were confronted by three demon dogs with carriages on their backs.

"Stella, think of something you can't get inside rather than killing. Fight freely, but never push."

Stella replied "Yes," and immediately stuck inside the demon dogs.

(I told you not to push it... if it's Stella's style, you should be in a brawl...)

With that in mind, Ashley slashed and tore the demon dog in front of her.

Hamish and Alberic hear Ashley scream and jump right up.

"Al, I'll take care of the backup. I'm out front."

Without even confirming that Alberic nodded, Hamish held to take on the great sword of the stripper and went to join the Ashleys.

"He's the captain! Captain's on the front line!

One of the mercenaries notices Hamish and screams out loud.

To that cry, the mercenaries fighting, at once, were gaining morale.

"Don't let the captain take your hand! This is our job!

The motivated mercenaries push the demon dogs in once and for all.

The captain, Valeria,

(Oh boy. You're trying so hard to show the captain the good part. Nevertheless, that swordsmith of the captain will fall in love. Oops, if I don't get out front too, I'm gonna lose my prey...)

Valeria had looked around the whole thing slightly from the rear, but we decided that we were the dominant one and we ourselves were running towards the front line.

Hamish breaks the demon dog that was about to be attacked by Ashley with just one knife.

The demon dogs who see how it goes stop the creepy roar of whether they have lost their will to war or grunt and fall back jizzily.

A big demon dog was slowly appearing and gauging the timing of the attack with his companions.

"Dog flair is clever!

Hamish screams like that, then stuffs an intermission with the demon dogs at once with an explosive move he showed in a mock battle with Ray.

The demon dogs weren't surprised for long. The boss-like large demon dog couldn't even move and was slapped off by Hamish's great sword.

Ray saw the appearance and accidentally stopped his magic shooting hand.

(Shh, wow... while cutting it off with that huge sword, he's attacking another enemy in the next moment. It's too fast to follow with your eyes from here. I guess if you look at it from the enemy, you just look like you're traveling momentarily...... yeah? If you look closely, it looks like Mr. Hamish is gathering the power of the Spirit, is it your fault?

It was nagging in his eyes, but the power of the Spirit seemed to be wrapping Hamish's body.

(Is it a form of magic? Is it like qigong or something?... Now we need to focus on the fight...)

He looks around to see if there are any demon dogs trying to enter the circle.

Alberic's appearance caught my eye, and again, I was blinded.

Alberic is standing on a carriage and sniping at the demon dogs with his bow, but the power of that arrow was unusual.

His unleashed arrows penetrated his head completely against the Demon Dog, a large demon nearly two meters long.

(It's just an arrow... a skull with about a hug, I can't believe it penetrates the jaw-developed Devil Dog skull lightly too... It's not a siege crossbow, Barista, it's impossible...)

The arrows unleashed by Alberic bury the demon dogs one after the other.

Did he notice Ray's gaze, grinning, stopping his shooting hand and gently raising his hand?

(This person is also (...) a monster... Mr. Alberic said he was a second-degree. It's true that there are big walls in the third and second levels...)

Twenty minutes after the demon dog raid, the battle ended before 5: 00 a.m. when the sky began to whiten snugly.

He eventually tailored sixteen demon dogs and only let two or three escape.

There was no damage to you, the merchants, the horses, and the injured on the mercenary's side had a complete victory with only two minor injuries.
