Lesson 43: Enemy Thoughts, Allied Interests

Randall was looking at Ray's healing magic, thinking about the demonic power. And I thought to the main force of that enemy, and I was staring at him.

(That's more power than I expected. I especially don't like how many demonic warriors there are)

Eighteen years ago, when the Great Invasion of the Demonic Nation took place, the key to the Kingdom of Kaum, Fort Toa, fell. At that time, the main force was the Ghost Warrior, who torments the Royal Kaum Army with much stronger strength and higher intelligence than man. Randall had heard that fact from his fellow mercenaries, Hamish Markat, and others, who were staring at him because of it.

"Professor. Is the story that came out of this interrogation correct? I think you're pretty familiar with it, though, just because the puppet knows?

Was Rionel Raspade anticipating Randall's question or presenting his hypothesis immediately?

"I've made an inference about that. Perhaps, but the puppet shares his memory with the surgeon. Maybe he was injected with memories via demonic props, but he definitely has the memories the operator had"

Ray, who finished treatment, has joined the story.

"Why would you think that? Assuming it was when the Demons were captured, didn't they possibly keep information about the lies in their memory?

Raspade shook his neck sideways,

"You can't think of that. First of all, the Demons don't think puppet magic can be dispersed. Arklight, if you are here, and if I am, the Demons are often wrong. You think a normal magician can figure that out?

Ray nodded small, "Right,"

"Without the teacher, I don't think I'd have found him alone."

"Then it's hard to imagine the Demons taking safety precautions and planting false information."

Randall nods to Raspade and further asks, "Well, that information is true," he says.

"Perhaps, no doubt, a man named Varma of the Moon Demons is a man of considerable high standing. I don't even know what position you're in in in this operation, but from the fact that you've just been sent one, there's no question you're in a guiding position. So it's no surprise that you know the story of the earlier forces."

Randall and Ray were still convinced by Raspade's hypothesis.

Randall, the head of defense in particular, had his head troubled by how he would respond to that mighty force than the enemy's power had been found.

Luna, who was similarly listening to Billy's interrogation, was stuck and bewildered by the fact that she was being targeted by the Demons.

(How could I... Sure there is aptitude for dark attributes, but there must be plenty more talented than me. Number one, I can't use magic...... does my memory matter?... The Demons have raided because of me. And a lot of people are in danger... No, there are already many adventurers missing. That's all my fault......)

And roughly a month ago, I was remembering what Ray said.

(A month ago, I had been warned by him, and I refused to do so. Because I didn't want to admit I was being targeted... yes, I refused his word for such a child-stained idea... if I had listened seriously to his warning then, the Demons might not have attacked Periclitle (here). If I had escaped from here to another land......)

Her face turns pale and starts to tremble slightly.

(I always do. I can only think of myself like a child...... yes for a long time. Since I was in Japan. And even after that guy helped me...)

Ray noticed how Luna was doing and said, "Are you okay?," but she couldn't even answer, just shaking her head to the side.

"Sorry. You'd be shocked if they asked you this, wouldn't you? I should have thought of you a little more. I'm so sorry."

Ray bows his head to Luna.

"Because this is the end of the interrogation. You can go back to your people."

Luna said nothing to his words, dropped her shoulders and left the room.

The leftover Ray regretted that he had taken things too rapidly.

(No matter how much I said I needed to be informed of my dangers, there must have been another way. Now it just seems like Luna is responsible... even though she lived eighteen years in this world, she was just a high school student, so there's no way she could stand it...)

He came to a discussion with Randall and others to protect Luna, although driven by self-blame.

"Luna, son of the moon, seems to be the primary goal in the current story, but the invasion of Pericritle seems to be one of the aims. This means that handing over Luna will not leave Periclitle's crisis. Turning over Luna on the contrary could even make the offense more intense"

He wondered if Randall would try to turn over the figure of the Son of the Moon that the Demons wanted in order to protect the city. If the purpose of the Demon Clan is only to secure Luna, there is a good chance that the crisis will leave. But the invasion to the west was one of the aims, and he pointed out that if Luna left, who the Demons didn't want to hurt, he could attack the city without hesitation.

Both Randall and Lloyd understood that and nodded small. Ray goes further.

"Fortunately, we have a demonic prop to discover the puppet, so now the puppets can't act by waving a major player in the city. First, publish this fact and let the city know that the Demons use puppets. And place your teacher's magic props at the city entrance and exit to prevent puppet intrusion. Then the only remaining concern about the puppet will be the whore who was with Mr. Kirsty."

"Right," Randall nods loudly, ordering Lloyd. At this time, Ray didn't think the Demons would break in directly. Because I didn't expect the Lunar Demons who didn't show up to do the high-risk measure of breaking in directly.

Randall turned to Lloyd,

"The top priority of the Information Division shall be an investigation into the puppets of the Demon Nation. Find that whore as soon as you can."

Lloyd nods, "Got it," and confirms to Raspade the time it takes to manufacture the magic artifact.

"It's this magic prop, how long can it be?

Raspade was looking at the needle-shaped puppet's demonic props,

"Oh, the magic formation is complete, so anyone can modify it from a lighted magic prop if they can manufacture it. If you get used to it, you should be able to do enough for one modification."

"Lloyd, hurry up, go around the tool shop in the South End," Randall ordered.

Lloyd said yes and left the room immediately.

"I've been worried about that earlier in the interrogation," Raspade said after staring at the matter with disinterest.

"... I've thought about it before, but the story of your son in the moon sounds like information you'd like to keep quite secret. If you say you want to negotiate handing over the son of the moon, won't they come aboard? That's when their thoughts..."

Ray said so that he could put it on his words: "Does the teacher tell you to turn Luna over! shouting,"

"As I explained earlier, handing Luna over won't leave the city crisis! On the contrary, the situation is even more severe…"

Raspade began protesting. He took control of Ray with his hands and said, "I don't suppose your reasoning is necessarily correct? After I said,"

"If you say that you know that this one is the Son of the Moon, and that you know that the Demons want that figure even more, will you get to the negotiating table over there as well? I thought it might be possible to pull the demons out of that negotiation."

Ray didn't get the word to return it to Raspade.

(What the teacher says is right for the moment. It's natural to think that if you give Luna away, you can avoid a fight. But I do. Periclitle was attacked even when Luna was captured. They are, yes, the ghosts are not interested in the Moon Son. Besides, this teacher tries to know whatever he wants to know. Because of that, we're already both dying. If you trust me easily, Luna, Mr. Tsukiya is in danger...)

"Put me at the negotiating table, what are you going to do?

Raspade began to answer the question pale.

"Let's be honest. I'm not interested in the survival of this city. More than that, I want to know about the existence of the Demons, especially the Moon Demons. We don't know anything about them..."

Ray remembered his fears in Raspade, where he could tell that he was not interested in the lives of tens of thousands of residents. Raspade never realizes that, and goes on to talk about it.

"... that moon demons want the son of the moon. Then it will be the Moon Demons who arrive at the negotiating table. It would be beneficial for us to just look at them and talk about them. You must have never negotiated with us over there. Then, if you take the story well, you may be able to get new information…"

On Ray's behalf, Randall started talking.

"I understood what the professor was going to say. But I can't give you permission."

Raspade said, "Why?" I ask.

"If the interrogation was correct earlier, Ray is right, even if we hand Luna over, we won't stop invading the west, which is another purpose, that is, here in Periclitle. Besides, if it's going to be a negotiation with the Demons, this one has to be me or the guild leader. We don't know how to magically hang puppets, so we can't risk knowing anything about the defense of the city."

"Me or Archrite, if I take you, wouldn't that be a problem? Arklight, you're going to need it for the defense of the city, so you can accompany me. I can tell when the Demons have started using magic."

"No, I have no idea what the enemy is capable of. I don't doubt the professor's abilities, but if we assume that the enemy's abilities are far beyond our imagination, we should know how dangerous it is to enter the enemy's nostalgia. Discussing this matter any further will not change your decision."

Randall struck out the argument that it was useless to talk any further in a strong tone.

Although Ray agrees with Randall's intentions, he didn't think the Demons' abilities were so powerful.

(Mr. Randall is right, if the Demons are more powerful than we can imagine, Luna should already be abducted and Periclitle occupied. Well, I guess Mr. Randall knows and says)

Raspade can't seem to give up yet, but I don't think Randall will give in and shake his head small.

"Then, if you find an example whore, call me. Archrite, if you were here, it would have been proven that there was no danger to the subject's life. I'll think about which questions are fine."

That's all I said, he went back to his room.

Randall dropped it off with a shoulder-to-shoulder trick and informed the officials of Billy's treatment of the decree.

"Just in case, keep it as isolated as the Kirsties. Billy, I'll have Mandarin stay here for a couple of days. Well, just in case."

Billy calls out to protest, but receives Randall's harsh gaze and nods silently.

To change the subject, Ray began talking about how to publish about puppet magic.

"With Dr. Raspade's magic props, there's nothing wrong with that, but I think it's confusing when you publish it."

"Right," Randall nodded, "then what do you think we should do?" I ask.

"It's time to publish the confirmation of the guild director and Mr. Randall publicly. I know you're wondering how to do it and if it's painful, but I think we should first make it public that the people up there aren't puppets."

"I see. So you're going to investigate the puppet after you know we're not the enemy's hands... ok. Let's talk to the Alliance Leader in that direction."

That's what Randall said, he headed to the guild leader's room.
