Lesson XXXI: "Near Luberna"

February 18th.

There was a tall hysterical voice of a young woman echoing in the temple of Luberna, the capital of the Moon Demons.

"What do you mean?! Your son told me you were so limited!

Screaming is Elise Nortier, the supreme leader of the Moon Demon clan known as the "Moon Witch”. She has a crow-like pitch-black wing, a beautiful skin like white magnet with ruby-like red eyes, but now her eyes catch if her emotions are high and her eyes glow brightly.

What she's asking is Keira Lyvio, a winged demon spell with bat-like wings. She rubs her forehead on the floor like she begs Elise's forgiveness.

"From Lord Varma, when your son is distrustful of the Moon Demons. You said your son would be sacrificed by ritual. Lord Talvo Kronvar, the head of the Great Ghost Nation, and Lord Sorho Sommeryoki, the head of the Little Ghost Nation, are also aware of that... even though the Ghost Nation Chiefs pledged their absolute loyalty to your son. I was concerned that it could even be a battle."

"Sacrifice your son? Varma will also know that such a thing is impossible! Fighting ghosts! What is Varma doing!

Elise was shaking in anger as she listened to Keira's report. Continue to vomit enough angry words to finally regain calm.

"So what does Varma want to do?

Keira slowly raised her face,

"Lord Varma asked Elise to come to Zalesche and tell your son the truth. You said that you would not believe what you said in your own words when you lost your son's faith."

Ellis understood Varma's intentions.

(Varma is hung with the "art of vows”, so I can't answer all your son's questions. In that regard, I can answer everything because I have no constraint whatsoever... I don't know, but you don't)

Still, the question remained.

(Why was your child mistaken about the ritual? No, how did they know the word “ritual” in the first place... only some of our Moon Demon and Wing Demon clerics should know about this. I know other Black Demons, but there's no sign of their contact... the letter Varma sent from Leriche was about to earn your son's trust. For at that point your child should not have known about the ritual. There is no leak from her because Varma is hung with the art of vows...)

If there were too few ingredients to derive the answer to what I doubt, I stopped thinking about it any more. But I realized I had one more concern.

(Tarvo and Solm found out about the ritual. It is also directly from your son... your son is in possession of the ghost tribe of Zaleshe. If, in case, Varma is right, it will be a battle between Zalesche and Luberna... it still looks like I should go...)

Keira kept waiting silently and flat at Elise's feet.

After a minute or so of silence, Elise slowly started talking.

"Okay. Let's head to Zalesche ourselves. Keira, I'm sorry, but I need you to work for my escort."

Keira said, "Ha! He answers," I will protect you even if you change your life, "and rubs your forehead further on the floor.

"The departure is tomorrow morning at dawn. I'll hurry, and you and the Wingman will be the only ones on your way."

Keira said again, "Ha!," he replied, falling back from before Ehlis.

The remaining Elise soon goes to tell his fellow clerics that he will leave the capital.

"... so I will come and pick up your son myself. I'll leave it to you to prepare for the ritual, so we can move on without a hitch."

The clerics give the opinion that winter flights are dangerous or that it is unusual for a Moon witch to descend into the ghost tribe capital. But Ellis kicks that opinion over.

"Who but me can persuade your son? Who can suppress them when the ghosts are making disturbing moves? We only have one choice."

That's all Elise says, she goes back to her room and gets ready to leave. Normally I have a samurai with her, but this time I don't take a samurai who is a non-combatant because she needs to move quickly and in the worst case, it could be a battle with a ghost tribe.

(Haven't seen you in decades? I can't believe I'm out of the capital without a samurai... there may be enemies I don't know. At least someone who knows about the ritual, which is top secret, is in the way... is that the "white magician" in the report? No, I don't think so. Human beings can't possibly know that even a fellow Wing Demon knows very little about it. Either way, we need to keep our heads tight...)

Early the next morning, Ellis flew into a clear, cold sky from the ground, with Keira and ten winged demons.

■ ■ ■

February 19th.

The Rays picked up the morning at the top of the canopy close to Luberna. Cold temperatures are harsher in the mountains of the north, but there is less snow than I thought. The coniferous leaves are stretched with bright white frost due to severe cooling.

There was a white veil-like morning mist standing around, but the sky was clear. When the sun rose, it was thought that the fog would clear and the neat winter sunshine would spread.

Their interest was not in the beautiful winter sunny sky colors, but in whether the Winged Demons, Winged Demons, etc. would not come out for reconnaissance.

"If this fog clears, we'll see it round out of the sky. You'd better get down while you still can."

In Ashley's words, Ray also said, "Right. I can't even look you in the eye if you come this far around the corner and find me," he snorts.

The Unos sent the Beastman Slave Squad out to perimeter alert and went down the hill south of Luberna.

The fog thickens as it descends. Wrapped in bright white mist, I can't even see ten meters (melt) ahead.

At this time, the ealis were passing over them.

And it is called Lowni, and it is like a deep valley by the high mountains of the east and the west. The cliffs have trees to stick to, creating a gorge-like landscape.

On the map obtained by Uno in Leriche, it was thought that even though the winged demons flying in the sky needed to pass through here in order to make their way south from Luberna.

Without realizing that the Ealis had passed through the sky, the Rays march through the deep woods toward Luberna in alarm of the demonic scourge.

That evening I reached a place with a panoramic view of Luberna.

Luberna is a sanctuary with a great temple of darkness, but at first glance it is a fortified city. On the north side, the great rivers flowing from east to west, and on the south side, the great rivers flowing from south to southwest, all of which formed deep valleys and became natural moats. Looking at the shape of the city from above, it makes a triangle with the west as its apex.

And the city is surrounded by boneless walls about twenty melts high, and its walls are surrounded by spires. The only open east side was no exception.

Ray was thinking about Luna, looking at the city under his eyes.

(Since the Winged Demons are flying many times, I think something has happened. I heard in the village along the way that they rarely see winged demons. But it's possible that Mr. Tsukiya was brought here where we didn't see him. If you're already here, you have to take action immediately. But how do I check...)

I need to infiltrate and get information, but I don't think I can infiltrate the deep valley and the high walls I see in front of me. However, according to what I heard in the village along the way, we need a special permit issued by the Temple of Darkness in order to enter Luberna, and I cannot come up with a good way.

(It's how we infiltrate, but if we can find it, we can't escape because we can fly over there...)

I will share that concern with Ashley and the others. And I asked Uno frankly, "Can I infiltrate unnoticed?"

"It's not easy, but I wonder if it's impossible," Uno replies instantly.

Ray felt hesitant to put them in danger, but made a quick decision.

"Get the information in Luberna and come," he bowed his head. Uno answers the words by poking one knee, "Even if I change my life".

Stella was looking at how it was, thinking about what she could do.

(Even when it comes to getting information, how? These people are awesome, but the first city doesn't know what's going to happen... I'm sure the Moon Demons were talking about a lot of women. If so, it might be easier for me to get information if I infiltrate...)

Stella explains her thoughts to the Rays.

"From what I've heard in villages along the way, Moon Demons and Wing Demons should be more women. So I guess it would be easier for me to infiltrate with you."

Ray nodded small, but couldn't make a decision right away.

(Indeed, both the Winged Demons and the Moon Demons I have ever seen were women. If there are many women, their care should also use nature and women. You're right about Stella, but putting Stella at risk... when I say that, the Unos are the same, and it's not always safe to be here. I just have to do it the best I can think of)

I hesitated for a moment to put Stella in danger, but "I want to ask Stella" to take her hand.

Stella rejoices that she trusts herself and smiles when she says, "I'll take care of it". "I will definitely come back alive," he added, thinking further about Ray's mood.

In consultation with Uno and the others, the infiltration into Luberna was to be three, Uno, Diez and Stella, and Ocho was to act as liaison to find out if there were any villages around. Ray and Ashley were to lurk near Rowni, who would pass when the Winged Demons returned with Seyce and Nuebe as escorts.

The Unos immediately set off for Luberna, and the Rays also began to look for a suitable place to lurk in Rowni.

And I quickly found a place that seemed to be available for latent use. It is a cave in the midst of a cliff that makes a pavement, with a lush tree camouflaging the cave, but overlooking the pavement. Even Rays' vision is less likely to miss it during the day.

Seyce and Nuebe hunt the beast, which serves as food as they guard their surroundings, and Ray watches from the cave as he conserves his magic for a time of need. Ashley remained in the cave together as an escort to that ray.

(Even Lord Uno will take a few days to infiltrate and gather information. The question is when the Winged Demons will bring Luna back. We'll have to do something with Ray's magic before he gets inside the capital...)

Ashley told Ray what she thought.

"You sure do. We need to get it back before we get into the capital..." he replied grumbling.

"So unless you're already in the capital, you'll have to wait here."

Ashley concludes so, but Ray shakes his head to the side small.

"That's hard to say, isn't it? You can't shoot them off when you fly back, 'cause if you're moving around the ground, there 'll be dozens of ghosts escorting you."

The two of them worry about how to recapture Luna.

The day went by without a thing.

The next day, Ocho, the liaison, returned. He fell on one knee and immediately began reporting.

"The protection of the walls is stricter than I thought, and infiltration from the walls is difficult. We are considering other means, but it is difficult to obtain and return information in a day or two…"

It is difficult to approach the walls of Luberna even at night during the day because of the constant presence of winged demon outposts and the large number of winged demons who are also sentinels above them. Furthermore, the number of people passing through the castle gate is low, and no means of infiltrating is found to the extent that the wagon carrying food is passing through.

"Not on the map, but is there likely a village around?

"There are multiple villages about a few km (Kimmel) away. It seems to be mainly a rural area inhabited by people and beasts," answers Ray's question.

(rural...... at this time of year it will be rare to bring in crops......)

Ray nodded,

"Okay. Please tell Uno. He said not to push it."

Ocho lowered his head to lay flat, disappearing into the woods.

Ray is anxious to wait on this occasion.

(Can we just wait here for information on the Unos? If Luna (Tsukiya) had been brought to Luberna, I wouldn't be able to make it if I didn't help her soon... but vice versa, if she hadn't come yet, she'd be a snake if she moved poorly... what am I supposed to do...)

Ashley's right hand overlaps Ray's left hand.

"Not a single thing a commander can rush. I'm not asking you to stay as fatherly as you are, but it's also important to break up what you can't do."

Ray regains only marginal leeway in her care.

"You sure do. I can't help what I don't know."

"But I just can't do it like Mr. Hamish," Ray grinned as he floated his tattooed Hamish Marcut face.
