Lesson 29: Imperial Leader

May 6.

Difficulties on South Als Street, crossed Funnel Pass and entered imperial territory.

Spring was also in the real May, but the high altitude Funnel was the harshness of midwinter. Though struck by an out-of-season snowstorm, he arrives safely in the town of Furfree without being attacked by demons or bandits.

Furfley was a standard fortified city, with a rigorous interrogation at the castle gate.

There appeared a ray of holy knights and confusing equipment, so the knight of Viscount Furfley's territory guarding the castle gate would be coloured.

Ray entered the imperial realm of the warm climate and wore it without closing his cape. Until then, I was not particularly troubled and caught off guard.

"Get your hands off the weapon!," he said, forcing his men's soldiers to put up spears.

"I am Ray Arklight, a mercenary affiliated with the Mercenary Corps of Markat. At the request of the Blacksmith Guild (...), we are escorting the Lord Luna Lockhart (...)"

Ray smiles but emphasizes the words “Blacksmith Guild” and “Lockhart”.

"Lockhart says......" where the knight is out of line, Luna comes forward.

"My name is Luna, daughter of Viscount Masaias Lockhart. If you check the orb, you'll know if it's true."

That's what I said and offered him an orb.

Though the knight said he would "let me see it," he was distressed by the response because of his grand attitude and the son of the Viscount family.

The Furfree family is the Viscount family and is equal to the Lockhart family. However, it is not comparable in terms of influence over the upper echelons of the empire.

The Lockhart family, including the current Chancellor, has promised many benefits by providing guidance to the Duke and Marquis families in the manufacture of distilled liquor. In addition, influence through the blacksmith guild was beyond the boundaries of the state.

Orb was able to confirm that it was him.

"Forgive my disrespect. However, I have some doubts about the equipment of that escort."

The knight was more loyal to his duties than he thought. Even if Luna finds out she's real, she won't readily admit to letting her into town because of her awareness that she's protecting a city near the border.

"It does seem similar to Saint Knight's gear. But I am also the one with the name of Lockhart. Don't you see it's incompatible with light godliness? Plus, we're asking for an escort through the Blacksmith Guild. Still have a problem?"

With that said, I'll send Ray an eye out.

Ray nodded small,

"Received directly from Chief Ulrich Drexler at the General Headquarters of the Blacksmith Alliance"

Hand over the Blacksmith Guild crest, seal with hammer and gold floor (anvil).

"Let me take a look," the knight said, checking the contents of the seal.

"It does sound like a formal request for a blacksmith guild. Then there's no problem."

That's what I said. I made sure of Ray's orb.

The knight does the orb confirmation, but couldn't hide his surprise that he was of high grade for his age.

"Grade five in that year... I see I just deliberately chose to escort the Lockhart family's maid..."

Ray's entry into the castle was allowed, followed by confirmation of the orbs of the Ashleys, but no problems arose, including the Unos.

"Would you like to greet your palace," the knight asked. Because it is normal for a noble lady to greet the lord of the town she passes through.

But Luna turned it down.

"This time at the request of the Blacksmith Guild, I come to the Imperial City. Besides, I'm adopted even when I say daughter. Not enough to give Viscount Furfley time."

The knight was convinced with the words and bowed his head, saying, "Well, have a good time fur free".

After Luna and the others headed to the center of the city, the knight sent a decree to the lord.

Although the Viscount who received the report often thought about it, officials of the Lockhart family only entered the town and decided not to meet it because it was their adopted daughter.

If she were a real child or an adopted daughter of more than the Earl's, she would have changed her mind, but she was not particularly willing to take into account the like-minded Viscount's family, who were not related either.

If he was a slightly more conspicuous figure, he would have wanted to see him to gather information, meaning a request for a blacksmith's guild. But he was basically a samurai and didn't care about such details.

The Rays entered the town of Furfree and headed to the inn.

"I was a little alarmed," Ray says, Ashley shaking her neck to the side.

"I'm glad it was done to that extent. If he had a stiff head, he would have dug for roots and leaves and been questioned for the purpose of heading to the Imperial City. If you are questioned, you will be seen the collar of the servants of Lord Uno. Then I would have been absolutely sorry to that extent."

"Right," Ray nods. And I changed the subject to Luna's home.

"And the Lockhart family is amazing. It's not surprising because it's so famous in Ars, but I think the response changed all at once."

"That's right. Nobody in the Imperial aristocracy knows the name of Lockhart. No, no one who is noble in any country knows."

Her words are correct, but she wasn't really pinned on Ray.

(When you look at Luna, you don't feel like a nobleman. Well, maybe it's because I know her from the original world...)

With that in mind, I headed to the inn in the commercial district.

The next day, he left Furfree without a thing, and four days later, on May 10, he arrived in the heart of the eastern Empire, in Aldred.

Based on his reflections in the fur free interrogation, Ray tried to hide his armor with a cape in the big town interrogation. Has it worked or has it succeeded in getting into town without being able to rub it in the examination afterwards?

I went into town with no problems as well in Airdred.

This was the city where the Eastern Governor's Office was located, with branches of the Blacksmith's Guild.

When they enter the inn, they pay a tribute visit to the branch.

There, Ray and Ryan were crushed by the first big banquet in a long time, just like the general headquarters of Ars.

Nothing else was notable, and six days later, on May 16, he arrived at Ezarrington, the doorway to the southern part of the Empire.

evening of May 16.

The Rays were about to enter the city of Ezarrington.

The city of Ezarrington hits a branch of three main streets: the central street extending from the imperial capital Plymouth, the eastern street extending into the Kingdom of Kaum, and the Langton street heading east of the Wale Peninsula.

In order to protect the imperial capital from the horseback riding peoples of the central part of the continent, a fortified city was built in the central state at the mouth of the Fannell River, with huge bridges.

A checkpoint was set up on the north side of the bridge, and the Rays were in line for the castle entry process.

"And that's a great bridge," Ray tells Ashley as she looks far away.

Ashley was also overwhelmed by that spectacular sight, and all she had to do was answer, "Oh right."

The bridge was so huge that even Ray, who was watching Japanese civil technology, was so overwhelmed.

It is made of stone more than 1 km long (Kimmel) and the road width is wide enough for four carriages to pass through. It was made by earthly attribute magicians during the expansion of the Empire, but now its technology is lost.

Orb confirmation had been carried out at the checkpoint.

The Ashleys got clearance without a problem, but one soldier speaks at the time Ray showed the orb.

"You're a brilliant frog horse."

"Yeah, it's a really good horse. We got lucky when we caught the bandits."

"That spear and this horse. I know you're a good mercenary, but you're too young. Let me talk to you in the closet for a little while."

It was not a high-pressure attitude, but the words had the power not to say whether or not.

"Neither do the beasts behind it," Stella and Uno are also instructed to go to jail shortly after they finish confirming the orb.

"Why is that?," Ray asked,

"Regardless of the daughter, the fourth degree mercenary is not wearing protective gear. I just want you to tell me why."

The soldier initially questioned the fact that if he was a famous Lockhart family as a martial arts, the escort of the lady should have a minister, and that he was hiring mercenaries. Furthermore, the fact that the Unos were not wearing protective equipment hung the wheel on it.

And the biggest reason I spoke up was that I saw bright white gear when I checked the orb.

When Ashley stepped forward to say a word,

"I don't care if the others go first."

"I'm their employer," Luna told the soldier.

"Then could you come with me to the jar?"

I use reverence because I realize Luna's qualities.

"It's harder to rendezvous when you fall apart in Ezarrington. Can I have the other escorts with me?

The soldier thought for a moment into Luna's words, but nodded, "Be my guest".

The stuffing is inside the castle gate, leaving the horse and going inside.

Entering the dim stone room, there awaited a captain-like mid thirties knight and five bent soldiers.

The soldier at the inquisition gives a brief explanation to the knight and orders the knight who hears it to take off his cape.

"Let's have that cape removed first"

Ray took off his cape as he was told.

"Isn't that gear from Luke's Saint Knight?

Unemotional voice, but Ray felt something like pressure not to say whether or not.

"No. It seems similar, but it's something else. First of all, the crest is different from that of the Light God."

That said, he points to the (Spaulder) crest on his shoulder.

For a moment I thought it was the crest of phototheism, but when I calm down, I realize that it's subtly different.

"I see. It does seem a little different. But let the beasts there also take off their capes"

The Unos did not follow it at first, but Ray tells them to "do as I say" and take off their capes.

The neck muscles were wrapped with scarves, but soon a slave collar was found.

"You look like a slave," the soldiers say, the knights colour.

"Yes. My slave, is there a problem?," says Ray,

"Slave of the Beast in gear similar to that of the Holy Knight. We can't let this combination pass without asking what happened."

"I see. That's true," he answers only calmly.

So Luna interrupts the story.

"My name is Luna Lockhart. I am the adopted daughter of Viscount Masaias Lockhart."

The knight nodded without surprise at the words.

"I am entrusted with this checkpoint. My name is Isaac Selwyn," he introduced himself in a polite tone,

"I was told that the story of the Lockhart family's son appearing to be headed to the Imperial City was a blacksmith's guild and that he would be entering Ezarrington. But since you're part of the Lockhart family, you can't let anyone suspected of being in Luke's room go bare."

"So how do I do it?

Though Luna said so, she was in a bit of a hurry inside.

I thought giving the Lockhart family's name wouldn't cause any problems, but I feel that things have changed for some reason.

"We employ mercenaries belonging to the Marcut Mercenary Regiment as escorts at the formal request of the Blacksmith Guild. And the government of the Kaum kingdom has written that these people have nothing to do with the Holy King Luke."

With that said, I give you a seal with the seal of the Kingdom of Kaum.

Selwyn looked at the contents of that seal and said, "Sure, the Kingdom of Kaum assures you," but that look did not change at all.

"Even those associated with the Blacksmith Guild, the Kingdom of Kaum, will not be able to get anyone into Ezarrington who may be concerned with Luke's Holy Kingdom. Especially now."

When Luna said, "What now? I ask why," but I only answer "I can't talk to you here".

"If I were Luke's interlocutor, wouldn't I dress prominently like this? If you turn into a merchant so you don't get suspicious, it won't be a hassle."

"Sure, but... maybe that's the ruse"

Ray doesn't know what to do with his stubborn attitude, but he thought a poor response would make the problem even bigger and couldn't say anything.

"How can I clear my suspicions?

To Luna's question, Selwyn only answers, "We have to have Luke produce evidence that he's not one of them."

Ray sighs inside, "Well, it's proof of the devil," but without putting it to words, he had to shut up.

"You mean the guarantee of the Cow Kingdom and the Blacksmith Guild is not enough. So, as the son of an imperial aristocrat, why don't I assure you"

to Luna's words. Selwyn says, "Then,"

"No matter how Viscount Lockhart's family, you can't admit it in your adoptive daughter. Because it's not impossible to forge an orb."

If you are a real child, you can prove that you are from the Lockhart family because it shows where you come from, but in the case of an adopted daughter, counterfeiting is possible if someone who can create an orb, such as a lord or village chief, is involved.

"So it would be nice to have another imperial aristocracy guarantee."

"You will," I answer, but I am stunned by Luna's next words.

"I should have been able to go through. Then I'm going to ask the Duke of Etherlington family. Some of you will remember me, because if you give me the name of my father or my brother, you will always help me."

Selwyn felt in a hurry there for the first time.

This time he tried to detain Ray because he had heard rumors that the Holy King Luke would invade heavily, sometimes with a serious personality.

He was examining the suspicious from one end and the Duke of Ezarrington, the home, was evaluating the matter.

He has no noteworthy ability as a samurai or as a civilian just because he is serious. In addition, the Selwyn family was a knight lord with no territory, appreciated by the home for the first time and was just more motivated than usual.

Nor did he himself think that the Rays were between Lukes. Still, he thought that being a slave to the beast man would always be appreciated if he persisted in his attitude that no suspicious person would let through even with the assurance of a blacksmith guild or a kaum kingdom.

But if Luna informs someone in the Duke's house of this situation, it is fully likely to turn into an assessment of a fool with just a stiff head.

The relationship between the Duke of Ezarrington and the Viscount Lockhart family, particularly Zacharias Lockhart, is very close.

Zacharias advises on the sale of Ezarrington wines, and in just a few years he has made an impression of the Empire's best white wine region. Not only that, but he also made a significant contribution in distilled liquor making, which was highly appreciated by the civil servants in financial relations.

Naturally, if you were given that name, it would be possible to see someone in the Duke's house even soon.

It is further famous that the Lockhart family has gone into trouble with light theism, and it cannot be common sense for Luna to cooperate with Luke's interlocutors.

Doubting the Lockhart family, who have made a great contribution to their home and are even more hostile to Lukes, can't help but be called fools who are just not accommodating. The matter could easily be imagined by him as well.

Though he realizes that, of serious character, he cannot take down what he has spoken once, and begins to sweat cold.

Ray looks at Selwyn and puts out a help boat.

"It's not a good idea to bother the Duke's family. I just need you to know that I'm not Luke's type."

Selwyn had a blatant expression of relief,

"Or let me make a brief interrogation, let me, just. Well, I wish I could convince you."

Ashley, who was listening beside him, thought, "Which mouth says," but if I can't help rubbing it here, I mumble.

Luna suppresses angry Ryan with her eyes,

"Okay. Okay, let me wait here."

When she declares so, one of the soldiers prepares a chair.

"They say it's a short time, so fine," he says, turning down, standing still.

Selwyn started interrogating herself by telling her that she was just loyal to her duties, although she regretted that she had mishandled them.

"The purpose of the visit to Ezarrington is…"

We will check the purpose of the visit, the destination of the visit in the city, the duration of the planned stay, etc.

Ray answered the question without precipitation, and the interrogation ended in about five minutes.

"No problem. Okay, I'll allow you to pass."

"Thank you for your hard work," Luna lowered her head gently to Selwyn, wiping her forehead sweat, and went outside.

Through the castle gate, start crossing the bridge.

"You didn't expect me to be questioned," Ray says, and Luna agrees with that.

"I thought this was the most firmly governed city in the Empire..."

"I guess I couldn't do it barely because of the solid governance. But don't be considerate ahead. Doesn't it get tougher when it comes to entering the Empire City?

Luna answers Ashley's question.

"Right...... this was also a tough place to control at the traffic stop, but I think the Imperial City was tougher. Except for the aristocratic carriage, I'm not sure."

"If I could get to Jilsol from here, I wouldn't have to worry about it."

That's good, but Ray was thinking about why the security here got tighter.

(The knight earlier said that now is particularly tough. So ships leaving this city should be just as tightly controlled. Maybe we should explore why...)

I will tell Luna and the others about it and make plans for the future.

"I'm going to the Ezarrington branch of the Blacksmith Guild today. Because if the branch manager hadn't replaced him, he'd know, and maybe he'd have information."

"So it's a banquet with Dwarf today..." Ryan drops his shoulder.

"What are you unhappy about? The liquor, the food is delicious, and there's nothing to be concerned about. Where are you dissatisfied with your banquet with Dwarf?

To Ashley's words, Ray says, "Because Ash can drink alongside Dwarves," and comforts Ryan by saying, "I'll try to hang the magic of detoxification as much as possible."

They were often crushed at the Dwarf banquet, so they were beginning to feel united.

Stella had been subjected to a refreshing breeze blowing from the river's surface, listening to such conversations.
