Chapter 1773: Father’s Advice
"After the throne succession ceremony, I plan to return to Riventhal for a while."
Ian Shelby shared his thoughts with his father, "I opened a hospital over there; I am the investor, the dean, and the legal representative. There are some matters that need to be handled."
"The main reason for returning to Riventhal isn’t because of the hospital, right?" The King speculated, his face adorned with a kind smile, "Your hospital must be operating smoothly."
Having been seen through, Ian Shelby concealed it with a gentle smile and confessed, "I need to apologize to the elders of the Morgan family." His eyes bore seriousness, "I’ve taken their precious niece away for so long, not even visiting during the holidays, which makes me feel very sorry."
"Indeed." The King agreed, "If you feel sorry, you should apologize sincerely and earn the recognition and blessing of the elders. Only then can a marriage last long."
Ian humbly listened and nodded, "I’ll bear that in mind, Father."
"When do you plan to propose? What are your thoughts on the betrothal gifts?"
"Being my first marriage, I lack experience, so I’d like to hear your thoughts, Father, to provide me some guidance."
The father and son ate without much formality or rules, chatting as common families do.
This atmosphere made one feel relaxed and very warm.
The King told him, "Show your sincerity; sincerity is priceless. Materially, satisfy them too, since raising a child isn’t easy. As for Jocelyn, don’t make promises, just take actions. Make sure to provide the essentials like a house and car, so she won’t end up living in the hospital with you all the time."
Ian attentively took in every suggestion his father made and nodded in agreement, "I’ve bought a house in Riventhal; I also don’t live in the hospital."
"And the wedding, I think you might hold two ceremonies. Young people can afford to hustle a bit; looking back in old age, these memories are very beautiful."
The King further suggested, "Host one in the most gorgeous castle of our Lorelei royal family and another in Riventhal, planning two weddings of different styles. The one here can be more solemn and formal, while the one there more romantic. No girl dislikes a sense of ritual."
Ian’s eyes sparkled with agreement at his father’s words, nodding, committing every word to memory.
"Lucas, marriage and love can be two separate things or the same thing, depending on how you understand it." Saying so, the King took a bite of steak, savoring it.
"Father, I believe they are the same." Ian smiled gently, "I’m fortunate to have met her; she’s love, not a compromise."
"That makes you happier than most people in this world; marrying for love is a miracle." The King raised his glass to him, "Son, congratulations and may you always be happy."
Faced with his father’s sincere and warm gaze, Ian felt deeply moved and raised his glass, saying, "Thank you. Thank you for allowing me to marry Jocelyn, not interfering with my marriage or making me a victim of political marriage."
The King smiled and shook his head; he couldn’t do such a thing, never putting interests above all. He genuinely wished for the children’s happiness.
Although the Morgan family isn’t inferior, Ian, being royal, made Jocelyn appear as just a commoner in the eyes of outsiders, seen as an unequal match.
"Wishing you happiness." The King once again extended his blessings.
The two glasses clinked softly, and the father and son tilted their heads slightly, savoring the fine wine in their cups.
