Chapter 1778: You’re Fired
The King carefully cut his steak, his movements gentle. Upon hearing this, he didn’t show a trace of surprise, not even raising his eyes. "I know." His voice was unusually calm.
Ian Shelby was secretly shocked, "How do you know?"
"The royal doctor mentioned it." The King lifted his gaze, "He complained to me yesterday, saying that you beat Taylor badly. He didn’t know the reason, and neither did I."
The father and son locked eyes. Not only did the King not show any sign of blaming him, Ian surprisingly saw a hint of amusement in his father’s eyes.
This left Ian puzzled. What did it mean?
"Father." His magnetic voice was as deep as aged wine, "Then why don’t you ask me? We’ve met seven times today, haven’t we?"
The middle-aged man smiled, withdrew his gaze, and continued cutting the steak with an easygoing tone, "Because I don’t want to know the reason, so why ask?"
This answer took Ian by surprise.
His father said, "We’re all adults here. It’s good to handle conflicts on your own. Only a three-year-old would need their father to mediate."
"..." After the shock, Ian felt deeply moved.
What his father did also considered Taylor’s feelings, which finally allowed Ian to breathe a sigh of relief.
As they dined, the King deliberately changed the subject, "Have you reviewed the procedures for the succession ceremony?"
"Duke Byrne has already sent the detailed information to my email. I’ve looked at it, and have humbly consulted him about the unclear parts. Communication was pleasant."
"Hmm, very good." The son’s steadiness and poise made the King feel gratified and especially reassured.
Prince Taylor had already taken the medicine three times and his recovery was beyond Catherine’s expectations.
In the morning, he found it difficult to even get up to use the bathroom, writhing in pain, but by evening, he was moving freely in his room and could turn over in bed.
With the distinct pain gone, he felt his joy returning!
The torment of the morning was unforgettable! It was torturous!
In contrast, his mood improved significantly.
The night deepens...
Catherine, seeing her son gradually recovering, felt her anxiety ease a bit. With her son’s face, she estimated it would slowly get better, but for now, it’s still not suitable to be seen.
The next morning.
The royal doctor had just woken up and was leisurely doing tai chi in the courtyard when a guard came to inform him, "Royal Doctor, you’ve been dismissed, please pack your belongings and leave the royal court immediately."
"What did you say?!" The royal doctor was stunned. Did he hear it wrong?
"You’ve been dismissed." The guard repeated.
"On whose authority?!"
The guard truthfully replied, "The future King’s authority."
Prince Louis?!
"..." The royal doctor’s brows furrowed, instantly filled with anger. How could he do this! He’s devoted his life to the royal family! How could he?!
"The future King also said to please leave by noon, otherwise, he’ll have someone come and remove all your personal belongings." After saying this, the guard turned and left.
The royal doctor was so angry he almost spat blood!
Did Prince Louis know about the complaint?
But he still... wants to dismiss him? Isn’t this too unreasonable?? He hadn’t caused any serious medical mishap.
Resenting yet clinging to a last glimmer of hope, the royal doctor went to the King’s palace.
Meanwhile, the King, whose health had mostly recovered, got up early as well and was by the pond in the courtyard feeding fish, with several guards not far away.
"King." The royal doctor stood by the King, worry written all over his face, and started to complain, "Prince Louis wants to dismiss me. Did you know about this?"
"No, I didn’t." The King’s tone was warm and calm, showing no surprise.
Hearing his leisurely tone, the royal doctor got anxious, "So now... you know?"
"Yes, I know now."
The royal doctor said indignantly, "You have to stand up for me. You can’t let him be so willful! I’ve been with you for nearly twenty years!"
