"Old man, you sit down," Bella Acker said. "We young people are here, we can’t let you get tired."

"Not tired, not tired," the old man chuckled. "To be able to cook for you youngsters, I’m happy. Young Acker, Jewel, you both sit down, let me do it."

Seeing how insistent he was, Bella didn’t argue further, "Alright then. Old man, can I assist you?"

"That can work." The old man rolled up his sleeves. "Young Acker, do you prefer steamed fish, braised fish, boiled fish, or fish with pickled vegetables?"

"Steamed will do," Bella thought steamed fish would be the most convenient.

"Alright."

The old man started boiling water, while Bella first cleaned the fish thoroughly and prepared the ingredients.

Judy Zimmerman also walked into the kitchen, smiling, "Old man, what can I do?"

The old man turned his head, "Check if there are any fruits in the fridge, if there are, wash some for us to eat."

"Okay." Judy returned to the living room and opened the fridge.

Bella was puzzled, wasn’t this the old man’s home, how could he not know if there were fruits in the fridge?

Judy’s voice came from the living room, "Old man, there are no fruits in the fridge, I’ll go out and buy some."

"Oh, sorry for the trouble, I’ll give you the money when you get back," the old man replied energetically while busy applying seasoning to the fish.

"Alright, I’m off then." The living room door opened and closed again.

Bella put down the washed water spinach and suddenly asked, "Old man, do you usually live alone?"

The old man’s hand slightly paused while applying the seasoning, then he chuckled, "Not always. I have an old buddy who stays here nine out of ten days."

"No wonder, I was wondering why the clothes hanging on the balcony didn’t seem like yours," Bella laughed.

The old man sighed, "My old buddy has it rough too, his house is too small. His son got married and had children, and his daughter-in-law is not filial, making him unhappy at home, feeling sidelined. He used to take his quilt and sleep outside shop doors at night. When I found out, I told him to move in here. Ah, life, it’s not easy for anyone."

"Doesn’t his son care?"

"Just not filial, if he were, would he let his father sleep on the streets?" The old man seemed a bit angry, "I advised him to sue his son and daughter-in-law, asking them to at least pay support every month, but my buddy pitied his son, knowing he too doesn’t have an easy life, so he just endures it."

"Parents’ hearts are always full of pity," Bella said.

"Exactly," the old man shifted the conversation, "Also, his son lacked judgment picking an ungrateful wife. If he found someone like Young Acker, this wouldn’t happen."

Bella was amused, "Old man, if you keep praising me, I’ll get embarrassed."

"I’m speaking from the heart," the old man turned to look at Bella, seriously asking, "Young Acker, my grandson is quite the catch, capable too, won’t you consider it?"

Turns out, the old man still hadn’t given up on setting her up with his grandson?

Bella was amused yet helpless, "Old man, I really can’t be with your grandson."

"Why?" The old man thought his grandson was great, why wouldn’t Young Acker like him?

Bella sighed, "I have a daughter who’s already a few years old."

"Oh?" This was somewhat unexpected for the old man.
