Chapter 142: Battlefield
When they reached their position, they were surprised to find only four hundred cultivators.
Mike, together with other commanders, immediately started assigning every cultivator their position.
This place was quite big, nearly ten kilometers long.
Tyler sensed an immense flow of spiritual energy in this area.
’This must be the Mid-Grade Spirit Vein. Amazing! I haven’t even started absorbing the spiritual energy, but I can feel its intensity.’
’This feeling is like when I changed my phone for the first time.’
Tyler could literally explain his own feeling, because it was just that clear. The weight of spiritual energy, its intensity and power were all upgraded.
He couldn’t wait to pull it in, but he had to.
Mike pointed at a large hill behind them and said.
"That is the location of Mid-Grade Spirit Vein. Our goal is to keep the enemies away from that hill, no matter what."
"Even if one of the enemies manages to make his way here, he could potentially destroy the Spirit Vein."
Hearing that, Tyler frowned and asked.
"Commander, even if they did destroy the Spirit Vein, wouldn’t it regenerate within a few years?"
Everyone looked at Mike with similar confusion.
Mike nodded.
"Yes, but will you protect the destroyed Spirit Vein? Will anyone protect a destroyed land with their lives?"
"Of course not! So, even if they can’t take over this land, they could at least destroy the Spirit Vein."
Spirit Veins weren’t indestructible, but they were also very easy to regenerate.
That’s why, despite cultivators’ constant battles, the Spirit Veins hadn’t gone extinct.
After all, if there was one thing that cultivators couldn’t do was create Spirit Veins. If there was one thing they absolutely couldn’t lose, it was Spiritual Energy.
Hearing that, everyone nodded.
Mike pointed towards the distance and said.
"Usually, they attack at random times. This makes it harder to prepare for their attacks."
"And since we are generally the ones defending this land, we usually lose quite a lot of people in surprise attacks."
"But there is one problem. If we try to attack them, we don’t have the troops to attack both at the same time."
"If we try something like that, they will send more of their people to attack our lands since they generally have double the number of cultivators."
"Thankfully, we have superior strengths. So, we are capable of defending this land, but every week, hundreds to two hundred people die."
His words made the new cultivators tremble in fear.
Two hundred deaths a week!
They finally realized what it meant to participate in the war. They literally had no way out.
After joining the war, they can’t even leave.
Mike saw their expressions and calmly said.
"Of course, that only happens during war weeks. After all, even they don’t have the numbers to send armies every week."
"Otherwise, the war wouldn’t have lasted a decade. So, your task is to keep yourself alive while defending the land."
"Let the stronger ones kill the enemy. Of course, the rewards are also based on kills, so most cultivators often ignore my advice."
Normally, Mike wouldn’t have gone so far as to explain this to them, but considering the awakening of two new Spirit Veins, he needed them to survive.
He pointed towards the ground and said.
"You are standing kilometers away from the Mid-Grade Spirit Vein, but you can still feel the intensity of the spiritual energy."
"It means even if you are far away, as long as you can survive, you can still improve your cultivation."
Hearing that, the mood of those soldiers improved considerably.
Tyler didn’t care much about them. He had one goal in his mind.
Fight and gain experience!
Of course, this would eventually lead to him obtaining more kills, which would give him a chance to cultivate in a Mid-Grade Spirit Vein.
This would help him reach the Soul Sublimation Realm.
So, there were connections, but he still realized that he needed battle experience.
From the start of his cultivation to now, he had barely had a few battles.
This caused him to miss out on the experience of a fighter.
Cultivation was about fighting against Heaven and Earth.
People say this not just to demonstrate a cultivator’s power but rather their constant battles against different enemies.
After all, everyone exists within Heaven and Earth.
Just as Mike was about to say something, they heard a sound of a horn coming from afar.
"Everyone, prepare yourself! They’ve attacked."
Mike roared, summoning a large spear from his spatial ring.
Tyler also summoned a sword while others summoned their weapons, ranging from swords to spears to bows and arrows.
Mike immediately rushed towards the borders of their land while others followed after him.
As they got closer, they saw several of the cultivators coming towards them. They were moving quite fast.
The moment Mike rushed forward, another cultivator in the Soul Sublimation Realm appeared and clashed with him.
While Mike got occupied with an enemy, others started facing enemies as well.
Tyler was attacked in the head by a spear. It moved extremely fast, but Tyler managed to sidestep, dodging it.
He spun, swinging his sword as he cleaved the neck of his enemy.
Splash!
The blood sprayed out of his neck as the head fell to the ground.
Tyler didn’t waste mana, blocking the blood. When blood fell on his face, he felt disgusted for a moment.
His stomach churned, but he swallowed his disgust and rushed towards another enemy.
That man’s death didn’t go unnoticed. When Tyler approached another opponent, he was greeted by two different attackers.
Both were attacking him using different spells simultaneously from both sides.
Tyler channeled his mana into the sword and spun, creating a frantic tornado around his body that pulled the fireballs from both sides.
As the fireball collided with the tornado, it was dispersed without causing any damage.
Tyler jumped out of the tornado, with his sword thrusting towards the neck of his enemy.
The opponent immediately blocked it using his spear and shook it to strike his sword with the spear tip.
Tyler noticed his grip slightly faltering. Although the blade didn’t fall from his hand, this mistake was quite deadly.
’It’s a good thing I suppressed my powers; otherwise, I wouldn’t have noticed such a clear problem with my swordsmanship.’
Losing a sword was the worst thing for a swordsman.
He tightened his grip on the hilt and stepped forward. The opponent tried to pierce him with the spear, but Tyler dodged it.
Before the opponent could react, Tyler smashed his left hand on the spear, forcing the man to lose focus.
Splash!
The moment he saw an opening, Tyler swung his sword and slashed that man’s chest.
Suddenly, two fierce fire dragons approached his body, but Tyler jumped.
The fire still managed to catch his legs, but Tyler protected them using his mana, saving his legs from being burned.
While in mid-air, he sheathed his sword, holding the hilt of his sword with all of his power as he rushed towards the ground.
The moment Tyler landed on the ground, his body suddenly dashed forward.
In an instant, he appeared in front of his enemy and unsheathed his sword while in a crouching position.
[Sword Drawing Technique]
Splash!
It was a simple move, but against a Treasured Body Realm cultivator, he was able to slit his neck quite easily.
"Damn it! Who is this guy? It hasn’t even been a minute; he has already killed three of our people."
"Distract him from all directions and use arrows to kill him!"
One of them commanded, and the others followed.
They immediately stopped fighting their enemies and released several long-range attacks towards Tyler.
In an instant, fireballs, water bullets, lightning bolts, earth spikes, wind blades, giant rocks, and several other attacks rushed towards Tyler.
These attacks weren’t just fast but also destructive.
Unfortunately, Tyler was already prepared. He took a deep breath, holding the hilt of his sword tightly as he jumped into the air and swung his sword.
He made a horizontal chop, followed by a vertical chop. Then, he turned to the side and did the same thing.
In an instant, he had launched eight slashes, four on each side.
More importantly, each sword slash was thicker than a tree but still sharper than his iron sword.
Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom!
While those attacks were being destroyed, Tyler landed on the ground and rushed towards the enemies.
His movements were fast and extremely smooth. As he swung his sword, it drew blood every moment.
His eyes were coldly calculating their movements as his sword swiftly took their lives.
At this moment, his body and mind were working in perfect harmony, giving him insane reflexes, allowing him to attack his opponent neatly.
Each slash was aimed at their vital spot. Even if he didn’t chop their heads, he could still kill them by attacking their important body parts.
Splash! Splash! Splash! Splash! Splash!
In less than ten seconds, nearly twenty bodies fell on the ground.
