Chapter 1161: Supercomputer
"Sorry, milady..."
Elsworth clenched his fists tightly, his whole body trembling slightly from the effort.
Useless! Absolutely useless!
He had already steeled himself for any sacrifice, even if it meant his own life. He had determined to give everything for his lady’s sake. But now—
It was all his fault for being too weak.
Elsworth punched the ground, biting his lip.
Rex Goodwin—their intelligence on him was outdated. Back when they investigated the Sector Security, they’d always treated Goodwin as a mere afterthought. Who’d have imagined he could be this strong?
By combining Sanctuary in the Sky and Fountain, he opened an enormous gap in Life Points in a single turn. At first, Elsworth thought this was just some kind of stall tactic to draw hits, but soon realized how naïve that thinking was.
Three Saturns in a single turn, with three successive LP-bombing effects—how could anyone stand up to that?
Elsworth wasn’t the only one deeply shocked; Akiza felt the same.
Yes, Akiza hadn’t left after all. When Kira said there was an intruder in the Security, she hesitated, then decided to follow him and arrived at this underground site.
Akiza didn’t step in or say anything, but she watched the duel from a distance.
She then watched as Goodwin pulled out yet another deck she’d never seen before, deploying a set of angelic tactics she couldn’t quite call clever or devious, completely wiping out his opponent with ease.
Once again, this flashed a doubt through her mind—a question she’d wondered before.
Just how many decks did Rex Goodwin command?
As far as she knew, top duelists usually had a single specialty deck that they stuck to. Only a few switched between several—maybe three to five decks would already be considered a lot, used to cope with different opponents and situations.
But her instincts told her Goodwin had far more than just a few.
In fact, she suspected she might’ve never even seen Goodwin’s true deck yet. Both times he’d defeated her, it had been with different decks. Even when facing the Dark Signers, those fearsome Earthbound Immortal, this man had never once shown the slightest sign of nervousness. It was as if he fought just for fun.
Even dueling the terrifying Earthbound Immortal, or gambling his life in shadow games against Dark Signers, he still battled with an almost casual air.
Akiza could hardly imagine what kind of power and confidence it would take to always be that calm and at ease.
"You’ve lost."
Kira stepped forward.
"So, time to talk. Why are you here? Where is your lady? Where did you hide her?"
Based on the original storyline, Kira doubted Elsworth would come here alone. He was inseparable from his lady, Sherry—always together, wherever they went.
So Kira suspected Sherry must be nearby, likely on standby just outside this location. He also believed she hadn’t actually snuck inside yet—he hadn’t detected any other infiltrators. His guess was that Sherry was waiting outside.
Maybe their plan was for Elsworth to sneak in first to cause a distraction, or to set something up for her, and then Sherry would slip inside the Sector Security to do her business. Now that Elsworth was caught up with Kira, Sherry was probably waiting nearby and had yet to act.
Of course, it was just speculation, but easy to confirm.
Elsworth gritted his teeth, "Don’t be ridiculous. You think I’d ever—"
But mid-sentence, his words suddenly changed, spilling out against his will: "My lady is on standby at the café across the street. According to the plan, as soon as I give the signal, she’ll act—"
As soon as he spoke, Elsworth clamped his hand over his mouth, eyes wide in terror.
"What—what did you do to me!?"
His body instinctively recoiled from Kira.
At this moment, the loyal man was shaken to his core. The figure before him was like a devil made flesh.
He didn’t want to talk!
Yet, this man could still force him to confess secrets he absolutely mustn’t reveal. How was that possible?
Desperate to look away, to close his eyes, Elsworth found that Kira’s gaze seemed to possess a strange power—like an invisible force, holding his attention and making it impossible to pull his eyes away.
"Stop struggling. Look into my eyes."
Kira smiled gently.
"You lost our duel. As the loser, you must fulfill my demands.
In fact, if I wanted your life or even your soul, you’d have no choice—though don’t worry, I have no need for those. I merely want you to answer a few simple questions. That’s all."
Kira stroked his chin, pausing thoughtfully.
"Now, where were we... That’s right, Sherry’s waiting for you to create a diversion so you two can infiltrate my Security Security. But why? Isn’t your real enemy Iliaster? This isn’t Iliaster’s headquarters, nor is it any key outpost."
Elsworth’s shock deepened.
The LeBlanc family had been exterminated by Iliaster. It was only thanks to Elsworth’s desperate efforts that Sherry survived. Over the years, they’d been on the run, seeking the truth and working toward revenge.
But they’d never breathed a word of this to anyone else.
The LeBlanc family was long gone, Sherry was its sole survivor. The massacre had been suppressed by Iliaster’s influence—it didn’t even cause a ripple. How did Goodwin learn about all this?
"Don’t be so surprised. I’m the director of the Sector Security. It’s my job to monitor every corner of this city for the sake of public order."
Elsworth hesitated, unsure.
"If you came just for information about Iliaster, you might be disappointed," Kira said, shaking his head. "There’s really nothing valuable inside the Security. Frankly, I’d want it myself if there were."
It was like watching burglars tear apart your home in the middle of the night, only for the owner to find it funny.
Give it a rest already; this place is so poor you couldn’t find a copper coin in broad daylight—what do you expect to find rummaging around in the dark?
Elsworth struggled again, fighting the compulsion to spill his secrets. At last, he surrendered to the dark game’s binding power and spoke helplessly, "No, we know there’s probably nothing here... But the Sector Security houses one of the world’s top supercomputers. We only wanted to use its power."
"Oh?" Kira asked. "What for? What do you need the computer to do?"
Elsworth, resigned, replied, "To analyze a card."
He realized that resistance was futile—he could not refuse to answer.
"We suspect—Miss’s family was destroyed because of this card."
